Directed by Sanoop Thykoodam, the movie that tells the tale of two brothers has its moments of humour
Sumesh and Ramesh
Story: Sumesh and Ramesh are brothers with a devil-may-care attitude to life and are too lazy to work for an earning. Their father is very similar and the family is taken care of by the mother. But things start to change when Ramesh gets married.
Review: Some movies just breeze past you without much fuzz, providing a few laughs and are generally light-hearted. Sumesh & Ramesh is one such movie. The movie starts by introducing us to brothers Sumesh, Ramesh, their father Indukaladharan and mother Usha. Usha goes to work in the morning and has to earn and take care of the rest of the family, who are all too lazy to work and would rather spend each day boozing and having fun.
What the movie does well, is that it keeps everything light-hearted and breezy. There are also genuine laughable moments in the movie, with Salim Kumar scoring in most of these scenes. The comedian can be seen in all his glory in the movie, and is something that you would enjoy watching. Balu Varghese and Sreenath Bhasi are also good in their roles as brothers, who love and care for each other, but end up arguing and fighting about everything from the TV remote to booze.
Love interests of both Sumesh and Ramesh are also a plot point in the movie, and this is one of the aspects that moves the story forward. Ramesh is married off in a sudden move made by his family and the bride after a case of misunderstanding. This, however, invites some changes in the family, including the life of Sumesh. As days pass by, Ramesh and his wife get pregnant and Sumesh falls in love again. All this brews up and comes to a halt at the end of the movie, which also provides the full circle of love stories and marriages the movie introduces through its runtime.
Sumesh & Ramesh has nothing extraordinary to provide, but tells an ordinary tale of an ordinary family. There are scenes and incidents that are easily relatable to the Malayali audience like what happens on a regular day on a cricket ground with friends and when you plan a trip with friends. Even if the movie does not impress you, it will not bore you either.
While there is nothing spectacular about the camera work or the music, they do justice to the movie and its setting. The locale where the movie takes place is notable with it being nothing extravagant, but a small colony we have all seen in life. Sumesh & Ramesh, though not a big hit by any means, calls for appreciation for its light-hearted narrative.
Verdict: An ordinary and light-hearted movie that has a few moments of genuine laughs and does not bore the viewer in any way. If you decide to watch the movie, it will cheer you up and will also provide a few instances of Salim Kumar in all his glory.
