Rubdrabinar Obhishaap series review: Saurav Das shines brighter than main leads Vikram and Rupsa Chatterjee

Rudrabinar Obhishaap - Saurav Das.

Rudrabinar Obhishaap Part 2

Story:

A spin-off Tansener Tanpura (Tansen’s tanpura), Rudrabinar Obhishaap (Rudra veena’s curse) goes back in the past to unravel various mysteries. Alap and Shruti are at the centre of the mysterious happenings and various characters get introduced by Saurav Das’ Naad tends to have a bigger screen presence.

Review:

The scare of Rudrabinar Obhishaap is made through animation. Very soon, the nightmare comes alive. Saurav Das as Naad is beyond impressive in his role, right from his entry scene.

He has a very interesting role. He takes on many characters and most with perfection, scaring you more than the last time.

Naad has various shades, which is clear from the first few minutes of the first episode itself. The music often tends to give his character more depth. The character unfolds into a new chapter with almost every new episode, especially towards the end.

There's a song dedicated to Alap and Shruti which is one of the cheesiest things you will come across if and when you watch the show.

Skeletons from the past reveal themselves slowly but steadily. Alap, as always, solves mysteries through notes left behind. This time, the search is for Rag Sanjivani and there is no option but to find it. Alap's expressions are very neutral in the scene.

Shruti, on the other hand, is a chatterbox as always. It becomes unnecessary in most scenes and that is when Alap shines.

The series appears to be made for Alap to look like a hero. He jumps in at every opportunity like a hero does. Fortunately, there genuinely are moments when he is shown as smart but showing Shruti as goofy does not work in the favour of the series.

Episode 3 of the series i.e. half way through the show, the story finally develops into something that piques your interest. It has the past and present linked in a scene which is one of the highest points of Rudrabinar Obhishaap.

A scene from Tansener Tanpura is back in the series and it happens to unlock a big mystery. The scene is among one of the many flashbacks that give meaning to the story Rudrabinar Obhishaap wishes to convey.

The series tries to tap into humour but fails on many levels since the show is mainly based on the themes of adventure, drama and thriller. It ends on a cliffhanger and promises to release more episodes on December 30.

Soon after that, there is a post-credit scene which is a perfect balance between confusing and depressing. You know that tragedy will strike once again but whether Alap and Shruti can come out of it all alive, is the real mystery.

Verdict:

Rudrabinar Obhishaap is not a world that will lure you in from the first glimpse. It takes its own sweet time but characters like Naad sure keep you hooked to watching what mysteries the series is hiding.
