Kamalika Banerjee steals the show as Mini’s mother
Mini
Story: Mini’s (Ayanna Chatterjee) mother (Kamalika Banerjee) suffers from trauma. As she recuperates, her sister Titli (Mimi Chakraborty) forsters the child and the duo develops a deep friendship. Their journey is what Mini is in a nutshell.
Review: What could have been a tale of two independent souls – one eight/nine-year-old child and one young independent woman – turns out to be a damp squib because of poor writing, lack of cinematic exploration, and the zeal of showing the star a tad too much.
The film suffers from sloppy writing. The storyline follows a predictable path. The camaraderie between Mini and her aunt Titli looks superficial. Their journey together lacks genuine warmth. Meanwhile, most of the characters, including Titli’s neighbour Pinki Banerjee, and boyfriend Saptarshi Moulik, appear incomplete. It seems, in an effort to put Mimi chakraborty in focus, the rest of the characters became unimportant to the writer.
The film has good music. Lagnajita Chakraborty’s Kotota Raat is beautifully rendered.
Verdict: The film follows a simple track with little requirement for performance flair. Mimi does a decent job as a confused, independent woman. Her character, however, is dotted with stereotypes attached to a modern Indian woman. Little Ayanna is the cuteness quotient of the film. Her irreverence and exasperations are captivating. She has some hilarious dialogues and she places them well. Despite a little over-the-top performance, Kamalika portrays the trauma of a heartbroken woman nicely.
Verdict: However, Mainak Bhaumik’s presentation lacks charm. He is known for his sharp and witty storytelling which usually attracts the younger generation. However, it is because of his effort to keep up with the tested genre family saga, the sharpness is fading away from his projects. The film is available on Zee5. however, one can give it a miss.
