Masthu Shades Unnai Ra Story

Upset with this, Manohar decides to do something in life and joins a Photoshop learning course. There, he meets Uma (Vaishali Raj) and develops feelings for her. Things change when Manohar starts a printing shop and faces several challenges. The film's basic plot revolves around whether Manohar will be successful and what challenges he will face while running his small business.

Masthu Shades Unnai Ra Review

Masthu Shades Unnai Ra is the simple story of an underdog who has an inferiority complex. How he makes it big despite going against the odds is the basic story of the film. Director Thiruathi Rao has kept the mood of the film light and showcased it in a simple and breezy manner, without many deviations in the narrative.

What makes the film watchable is the performance of the lead cast. Abhinav Gomatam leads from the front and delivers a fine performance. He, as an underdog, stays away from comedy and plays his role sincerely. His journey and the way he performs hold the attention of the audience till the end. Though there is nothing new that is showcased through the story, the way it is narrated with neat moments is the best part.

However, the emotional arc in the film is not great. More emphasis should have been placed on the emotional turmoil that the lead character goes through. If this aspect had been handled better, the output would have been a lot better.  A few scenes related to the hero's business getting into problems and how he handles things on his own are showcased through some interesting scenes. The writing is decent and the screenplay manages to catch your attention.

There are a few engaging moments related to Ali Reza's character and they have been handled well. Masthu Shades Unnai Ra is a film that does not beat around the bush. The storytelling is not forced on the audience and this is the best part of the film. As said earlier, Abhinav Gomatam does a superb job. He once again proves that he can be a versatile actor and can take on any role that is showcased properly.

The female lead, Vaishali Raj, is also impressive in her role. She has a striking screen presence and ably supports Abhinav in the narrative. Ali Reza is getting decent roles these days and does well in this film. Nizhalgal Ravi is superb in his key role and creates an impact. The production values of the film could have been a lot better. The music by Sanjeev was just about okay but his BGM was impressive.

The camerawork was strictly okay and so was the editing in the second part. Close to 10 minutes could have been chopped off in the second half to make things better. The lyrics were decent and so were the dialogues. Those written to elevate self-confidence are neat in the film.

Also, one of the drawbacks of Masthu Shades Unnai Ra is the predictability factor. Once the key twist is revealed, you know what is going to happen next. That is the reason the climax looks rushed and ends on a simple note. But director Thirupathi narrates the film on a very honest note and drives the narrative through the journey of the hero.

If a few more emotional scenes and some heartwarming moments were added to the narrative, Masthu Shades Unnai Ra would have been a solid watch. Nevertheless, it has its moments and ends on a very happy note. One has to just lower their expectations to watch the film.

Verdict

On the whole, Masthu Shades Unnai Ra is an honest film that showcases the journey of an underdog with decent moments. Though the storyline is nothing novel, the breezy narration and Abhinav Gomatam's impressive act make this film a decent watch this weekend.
