A still from Kotigobba 3

Kotigobba 3

Story: Satya is in the crosshairs of the Interpol; this time for a series of crimes that appear to be targeting one individual. The perpetrator is a spitting image of Satya. Who is this?

Review: Kotigobba 3 arrived a day late in theatres, but when it did, it did so in style. My ears still hurt from all the hooting and whistling of fans who were enthralled at every gesture, flick of the hair or shirt and word from Kiccha Sudeep. The film, directed by Shivakarthik, is a massy entertainer that is high on class as well.

The thing about hardcore commercial films is that they defy all logic; so it’s best to leave your brain behind for this thrilling ride of about 2 hours and 20 minutes. The premise, this time around, is simple; Satya (Sudeep) is still at his do-gooder best running a home for destitute people. But he also appears to be going after criminals, and delivering them straight into the police’s hands. He still maintains though that it’s never him and the handiwork of Shiva, for whose death ACP Kishore (P Ravi Shankar) has been incarcerated.

Obviously, the finger of suspicion is squarely on Satya when there are more crimes everywhere he goes, done by someone who, interestingly, looks exactly like him. Soon enough, it becomes apparent that it is humanly impossible for Satya to be in two places at the same time, so the question arises, who is this guy who goes by the moniker ‘Ghost’?

Kotigobba 3 is a treat for hardcore Kiccha fans. The actor owns every frame/sequence he is in, even if the action seems absolutely implausible. If you suspend disbelief, this is quite the joyride. Nawab Shab as Devendra is a formidable villain, while Aftab as interpol officer Sharath also makes a commendable Kannada film debut. It is amazing though how the only two Indian officers on the Interpol’s service – one of who is Shraddha Das in a forgettable role, but for her bikini scene - just happen to be Kannadigas.

Kotigobba 3 is also Mollywood import Madonna Sebastian’s Kannada film debut; unfortunately, she has very little to contribute to the narrative. Ashika Ranganath, incidentally, is not the only one with a special number in this film, Pradeep Bogadi and Darling Krishna are there too.

Verdict: Kotigobba 3 is a Kiccha show all the way and fans will be thrilled that there is a lot of him in this installment. Grab some popcorn and enjoy this fun ride. It’s paisa vasool.
