Aarti Patel and Aarohi, as Shivu and Mayuri, discuss death in the first episode of Kadak Mitthi 2 but that just goes on to show the level of comfort between the two.
Kadak Mitthi Season 2
What's it about:
The mother-daughter duo Mayuri and Shivangi (Shivu) are back. They cannot go ahead with their daily chores without talking to each other at least once in a day, just like how every chai lover cannot end their day without a 'kadak mitthi chai'. Through their daily conversations, the viewers get a glimpse of how strong their relationship and personalities are.
What's hot:
Anish Shah has a knack for capturing mother-daughter relationships. Just like Kadak Mitthi season 1, season 2 has some sweet and funny moments that may end up staying with you even after the series is over.
Aarti Patel does a fine job as Mayuri. While she has some power-packed dialogues, the actress is so absorbed in her role that she looks natural as the (borderline) cool yet concerned mom.
Aarohi, on the other hand, comes in like a storm and leaves a remarkable impression as Shivu. She makes the connection with her mom so real that you’d end up feeling her love, pain and anger.
Kadak Mitthi season 2 is a show that gives you life lessons in a way that you wouldn't even know are impacting you. Anish has smartly put out subjects like voting, politics and constantly educating oneself. He leaves the message so subtly, through a series of episodes, that you never feel bored or lost.
At the same time, Anish also takes care of small details. He places Aarohi in a location where there are posters of iconic shows like Breaking Bad and Money Heist. Even though the posters are not in-your-face, you cannot ignore that she comes from a generation that grew up watching these shows, which have a strong message about people having a strong personality, no matter their profession. He adds this little detail in the episode where Shivu starts introspecting about her professional life, thus making the moment whole.
What's not:
The theme of Kadak Mitthi 2 has gone to a very dark space. The first episode itself talks about death, which is considered a hush-hush topic in families. Although the execution of the episode is not bad, it isn't remarkable either.
The next few episodes aren't too much of a relief either. They address topics like bribe during elections, not getting a promotion etc. Although Anish's intention might have been of showing that the mother-daughter bond is so strong that it could last a few dark moments every now-and-then, it doesn't help much in making the series an entertaining watch.
Some moments in the series appear forced. The episode where Aarti and Aarohi would talk about 'kadak mitthi chai' does not transition as smoothly as one could have imagined. The mother-daughter duo had cuter moments than that episode and thus, when the definition of 'Kadak Mitthi' is introduced, it doesn't have the same charm.
Verdict:
You can watch Kadak Mitthi season 2 but it may get too much after a while. When that happens, revisit the first season to live the actual feeling of holding a 'kadak mitthi chai' while living in nostalgia.
