Hisaab Barabar Review:

Audiences have witnessed several films and web shows based on financial scams in the past. Some of the notable projects include Raid, Scam 1992, and Special 26. Then, what sets Hisaab Barabar apart from the previous projects? While the basic premise is about a financial scam, the narrative revolves around a common man challenging the system.

This satirical thriller presents R Madhavan as Radhe Mohan Sharma, a simple and honest Ticket Collector working for Indian Railways. However, it wasn't a job that he desired to do. Since Radhe was good with numbers and accounting, he aspired to become a Chartered Accountant, but he couldn't fulfill his dream due to personal reasons. That aside, his daily routine includes working as TC, making sure his calculations never go wrong, and looking after his child as a single parent.

When Radhe finds a minor discrepancy of Rs 27.50 in his bank statement, he requests the Do Bank to provide clarity on the same. After finding similar discrepancies in his colleague's bank statement, Radhe believes the bank is scamming all of its account holders at large. Hereon, he sets out to challenge Do Bank owner Mickey Mehta. He registers a complaint and accuses the bank of financial fraud. But little does he know, that his one move is about to cause him a lot of trouble. What happens when Mickey puts the entire system against Radhe? How does this common man fight against it? It's something for you to watch in the film...

Hisaab Barabar works majorly because of its gripping narrative. The minute details of how Radhe uncovers a financial fraud are interesting to watch. The humor element brings much-needed relief to some scenes that are too complex. While the comic element seems seamless majorly, it feels forced at some junctures in the film. For example: In the scene where Radhe's neighbor Monalisa (played by Rashami Desai), laughs off a serious matter, that has already caused trouble in the former's life.

Having said that, the R Madhavan-starrer doesn't deviate much and sticks to its core narrative. It emphasizes the fact that one must not underestimate the power of the common man. Madhavan's character Radhe Mohan Sharma may come across as silly at times, but when you think of it in the larger picture, he's a rock-solid man. Although he does question his decision when his child's safety is at stake, one major incident brings him back to fighting for justice.

And while it is shown that Radhe is a single parent, it's never known why he and his ex-wife parted ways and left the child with him. Radhe often mentions that his 'hisaab' never matched with his ex-partner. But the actual reason remains a mystery till the film ends. This is another point where Hisaab Barabar falters a bit.

As for Kirti Kulhari's character, P Shubhash is a revelation in itself! From the time she meets Radhe on the train to the situation where he learns about her identity and (past), it is an intriguing tale altogether. Kirti's character arc is well-etched and she has beautifully played her part. Neil Nitin Mukesh, on the other hand, has done a decent job as Mickey Mehta.

Hisaab Barabar Final Verdict:

R Madhavan's satirical thriller, Hisaab Barabar, is a film that will resonate with the common men. It is a thought-provoking story that will stay with you for a while after you watch it. You can stream this film on ZEE5 and with your OTTplay Premium subscription.
