Review:

OTT platforms offer a barrage of shows and films in multiple genres that get plenty of attention from the viewers. However, the latest thriller series starring Iqbal Khan and Donal Bisht missed the opportunity given on an online streamer as big as Voot Select. Doon Kaand has a plot with all the required ingredients for a revenge thriller however the makers bring nothing original or new to the table.

The story revolves around a superior police officer in a hill town of India living with his nuclear family and becomes a target of revenge for nabbing a drug lord a decade ago and getting him sentenced. As soon as the antagonist is out of the prison, the cat and mouse game between him and the protagonist begins.

Being a serious show set in a small hill town, it somehow reminded me of the Huma Qureshi and Avantika Dasani starrer Mithya. Although, the ZEE5 original series is a psychological thriller and had multiple new angles in the story including the climax scene, which is quite unpredictable. Meanwhile, the end of Doon Kaand is not only predictable but also boring.

Iqbal's portrayal of an SSP Arvind Rawat is commendable. He is also a perfect family man and a great example of an ideal husband. Meanwhile, his chemistry with the Bigg Boss 15 fame Donal Bisht is also watch-worthy as well as applaudable.

Indraneil Sengupta as the former drug lord on the run of taking his revenge is good. But when you compare this experienced actor with his great couple of minutes performance in films like Kahaani (2012), you find something lacking or not as great as earlier. Although, Karan Veer Mehra's small but powerful appearance in the 10 episodic series is something that breaks the monotony of the story with the revelation of what happened in past.

Even though most of the performances were good, there are multiple sequences in Doon Kaand that seem unrehearsed and also loosely executed with uneven dialogue delivery, especially by the new supporting actors.

Verdict:

The fact that main actors like Iqbal Khan and Donal Bisht keep this slow-paced action-thriller afloat, makes Doon Kaand worthy of a watch.
