Do Not Disturb review: Malhar Thakar-Manasi Parekh Gohil's series could have been Little Things but suffers immensely

All the things that women have fought for over the years is all ignored and the backward mindset makes up for most of Do Not Disturb.

Story:

Maulik (Malhar Thakar) and Meera (Manasi Parekh Gohil) are a married couple who deal with day-to-day situations hilariously. However, the mentality of this husband also comes to the fore as the series progresses.

Review:

Do Not Disturb is a yet-another project where Malhar Thakar's live-in life is explored. Even though he has excelled at that since Sharato Lagu and does so even now, the plot is where Do Not Disturb really trifles.

Both Malhar Thakar and Manasi Parekh Gohil are impressive from the first scene. They are a cute couple who manage to make you laugh as well.

This series will take you back to Little Things or Aani Kay Hava. Maulik and Meera just as cute.

Comments like swayamvahu (because Maulik can't have var aka husband), 'Hairy Potter' and 'we're going to eat pizza (Ibiza)' are sure to make you giggle. The typical Gujarati-to-English translation is also a part of the series and it tries to be funny too.

Some scenes in the series are shot in a sensual manner and the music enhances the feeling but the scene gets rather hilarious. How families interfere in this couple's lives constantly is a reality that is explored well.

Maulik stopping Meera from wearing a backless blouse is quite shocking. In a society that has progressed, him stating that she cannot wear a backless blouse because his family members and the society will talk about it, is outright unacceptable.

Another shocker comes when Maulik states that Meera looking tall than him because of her heels is 'bogus'. I literally had to go back and watch the scene to understand if I heard him right. On top of it, when he states that he doesn't believe in inequality is nothing but a laughing matter and this laugh isn't even genuine.

Malhar playing various characters is interesting and hilarious. Manasi is shown as the typical nagging housewife and while she plays her role well, it isn't powerful per say.

Verdict:

Although Do Not Disturb starts off as something cute and loveable, it soon delves into all those aspects that women have fought for since ages now. Seeing such mentality in a series is highly disappointing and thus, the thought behind what could have been Gujarat's Little Things or Aani Kay Hava, is lost.
