Committee Kurrollu Review: Yadu Vamsi directs this village drama that takes you back into the 90s and holds your attention with multiple nostalgic moments of fun and drama.

Committee Kurrollu Story

Committee Kurrollu is about a group of eleven friends who have been very close since their childhood. A small altercation regarding an engineering college admission leads to a huge argument in the group, and splits the group into two. 12 years later, the group returns to their village after settling down in their respective jobs. They are in the village to organize a special traditional event that happens only every 12 years. How will the group members face each other? Will the old egos resurface? And how the group handles the new-age politics in their village is the basic story of the film.

Committee Kurrollu was written and directed by Yadu Vamsi on a very low budget. Chiranjeevi's niece and actress, Niharika Konidela, produced this film with almost all new faces in lead roles. What catches your attention right away in the narrative is the nostalgic moments. The director showcases the childhood that everyone goes through in their lives beautifully.

The fun quotient, teasing, love stories, and embracing adulthood have all been showcased in a very organic manner. Village politics is one of the backdrops, nicely intervening in the basic plot and holding the audience's attention. But the actual action begins when a simple argument about college admission is linked to the country's reservation system.

Credit should go to the director, Yadu Vamsi, for handling this aspect in a superb manner. The moments of argument and the recklessness shown by the group of friends in hurting each other keep you on the edge of your seat. A small issue is dragged on for no reason, and the fights between friends during the breakpoint are one of the best interval bangs in recent times.

The action showcased eleven friends beating up each other, running away from the scene, and spoiling the age-old tradition showcased in a mesmerizing manner. Such scenes have been conceived superbly by the director Yadu Vamsi. This is one of the best action sequences designed in Telugu cinema in recent times. 

Yet another major highlight of the film is the music by Anudeep Dev. He breathes life into the songs as every number in the narrative is amazing and only moves the story forward. His BGM in the interval bang is one of the best in recent times. Things are set superbly for the second half, which also starts on an engaging note.

The director had the option to create more rifts between the friends and more tension when the group returned to the village. However, the director chose to wrap up the issues between the friends quickly and focus more on the village elections.

The moments of realization of two friends and why they turned enemies have been superbly showcased. But that does not last long, as too much time is given to the village elections, and this is where things go down. The climax is predictable, and one gets a feeling that the director did not have much to showcase in terms of conflict here. The film ends with a small message: why one should be responsible for voting.

Coming to the performances, Committee Kurrollu is one rare film where every character performs to the best of his abilities. Starting from Sai Kumar to Goparaju Ramana, everyone does well in their parts. But the main heroes are the ones who play the eleven friends.

Sandeep Saroj, Tinath Varma, Easwar Rachiraju, and Yashwanth Pendyala stand out in their performances, and the rest of the cast is also amazing. The production values by Niharika are top notch and the manner in which the village has been lit by the cameraman gives a nostalgic vibe.

As said earlier, Anudeep is the unsung hero of the film with his splendid background score. The editing in the second half could have been a lot better. The production design, artwork, and transformation of the young teenagers to 30-year-old men are amazing. Each actor has worked hard on his body to showcase the transformation.

In the end, one gets a feeling that the director, Yadu, should have added more drama in the second half and elevated the friendship angle, which is sore now. But that did not happen, and the film ends on a simple note.

Committee Kurrollu Verdict

On the whole, Committee Kurrollu is a nostalgic village drama with amazing visuals, arresting drama, and superb performances. If you ignore the predictable storyline and a few dull moments in the second half, this film gives a lot of nostalgia and makes for a decent watch this weekend.
