Chhuri

What’s it about?

Chhuri is a short film directed by Mansi Jain. It revolves around Sharad (Anurag Kashyap), a married man who is having an extra-marital affair. His wife, Meera (Tisca Chopra), is an intelligent housewife who is aware of his affair and decides to settle scores with his girlfriend (Surveen Chawla) in a unique manner.

What’s hot:

Although the concept of adultery is not unique, the film’s take on the theme is impressive indeed. The audience is sure to feel a sense of joy when Sharad and his girlfriend are caught off guard. The poise and calm manner in which Meera confronts Sharad’s girlfriend is one that is never seen before.

Towards the end of the film, we see Sharad’s girlfriend throw his clothes outside the window after his rather problematic comment on her fidelity. As a viewer, this scene is sure to bring a smile to your face, as before this point, there are no consequences for Sharad’s actions.

The film makes sure to engage viewers at every point and is action-packed from beginning to end.

What’s not:

The short film reiterates the stereotype of a middle-aged married man having a relationship with a conventionally more attractive woman than his wife. This is a trope we witness in several films.

Meera visits Sharad’s girlfriend, who mistakenly reveals that there is another man in her life besides Sharad. In the last scene of the film, Sharad confronts his girlfriend about this. Although the shock on his face makes for a hilarious moment in the movie, it also makes us think about the double-standard that exists for women. Sharad, who is cheating on Meera, expects to be the only man in his girlfriend’s life. Ironic, isn’t it?

The film also stood by the age-old trope of a woman being a woman’s biggest enemy. Although it is great to witness Meera stand up for herself, it would have been refreshing to see her confront Sharad about his unfaithfulness instead of standing up to his girlfriend.

Verdict:

Although the film possesses a few negative aspects, it is worth the watch. It maintains a tight narrative and keeps the audience guessing what will happen next.
