Chaipatti review: A wannabe Stree minus the comedy

Chaipatti poster.

Chaipatti

What's it about:

Three friends decide to call upon a ghost after they challenge each other. What happens next, makes up for the short film.

What's hot:

Chaipatti is a good attempt to replicate the template of the horror-comedy Stree. However, there's nothing to it beyond it.

Sudhanshu Rai, who has also directed the short film, plays the lead role and does justice to his character.

What's not:

Chaipatti tries to be Stree but doesn't come anywhere close to the hit film. One can't completely blame Sudhanshu either, since the shoot had to be wrapped within a limited span. However, despite the circumstances, he could have made the script tighter for sure.

Although Chaipatti keeps you intrigued in the first few minutes, it is a journey towards disappointment, since eventually, the ghost also takes her victim naked, much like the spirit in Stree.

Out of the three friends, one is sure that the ghost will never show up while the other is scared and panics at the last moment. Sounds familiar? Almost every horror story, at least the summoning one, starts from the basic premise. Take Stranger Things or True Blood, for example. So the simple question is, what new did Chaipatti provide?

Verdict:

Watch the film for 10 minutes but end it there to avoid disappointment.
