Bodhon 2 review: Indrasish Roy and Sandipta Sen’s social drama is gripping

While it is a cliched social drama that deals with the problems simplistically, the tight script, beautiful location, and Indrasish keep us hooked. The show is worth a shot.

Story: Raka Sen (Sandipta Sen) and her government officer husband Riju Ganguly (Koushik Roy) go for their honeymoon in an interior village of Bengal where Riju has an assignment. On their way, they meet a bunch of rowdies led by Sukhen Chowdhury (Indrasish Roy) – son of local leader Satyaprakash Chowdhury (Loknath Dey). Raka figures that the area is plagued with crime against women. She starts a new battle.

Review: The second season of Bodhon is far ahead of its first season. It is darker and has a strong, convincing, grim storyline and interesting characters. The series also targets multiple social problems instead of focusing on one. The problem, however, is it takes a simplistic approach to address the concerns and the dramatization is over-the-top. Despite that, Bodhon 2 is more mature and delivers a gripping tale of a gritty girl.

This season also tells the story better. Aditi Roy takes us to a picturesque piece of land in Bengal and throws us to its dark reality of superstition, human trafficking, and politics of caste and power. Indrasish seems to mastering this character. His character Sukhen is very close to a character he played recently in a film. Yet, he delivers a fascinating performance and keeps us glued to the screen. His character, Sukhen, along with his associate Budhuya (Debojyoti Roy Choudhury), is abominable. The actors’ glances and smirks send a chill through the spine. Debojyoti proves that he is a promising actor. Loknath dey brings his own charisma to anything he does. His character is poorly etched out and that’s a shame. Despite that, he impresses every second he stays on the screen.

Sandipta has matured as an actress from the first season. She is the face of the show and she carries her responsibility proportionately to the requirements of the script. Koushik is also good but the chemistry between Riju and Raka does not work. 

The series is shot in picturesque locations. Raka gets lost in a place with her car and that area looks breathtaking on screen. The road through the forest is also delectably used. 

Verdict: Bodhon 2 is definitely a step up from the first season. While it is a cliched social drama that deals with the problems simplistically, the tight script, beautiful location, and Indrasish keep us hooked. The show is worth a shot.
