Black Adam review: Dwayne The Rock Johnson's film shatters myths about superheroes and that's not a bad thing at all

Black Adam

Story:

Risen from the dead, Teth Adam turns to Black Adam while protecting his country Kahndaq at all costs. Will it also cost him his power or life altogether?

Review:

When Black Adam was announced, it promised to change the dynamics. The movie changes a whole perspective. Adam is not a superhero. Some consider him to be a villain but even those people agree that a protector like him is bigger than even superheroes. That is where you know that this film has succeeded.

Black Adam commences from the story of Kahndaq, a country he ruled. It is a place that eas on the verge of destruction.

The intrigue almost constantly builds throughout the film. When you think you have it all figured out, comes another surprise which isn't shocking but still has something to offer.

The Crown of Sabbac is known to be evil hut its real mystery is hidden for the second half of the movie. When it is revealed, that is the highest point of the film.

Teth Adam is the real name of Black Adam. His story commences when he rises from the grave, literally.

Black Adam is almost an upgraded version of The Flash. Thanks to the light coursing through his veins, he is almost invincible. Black Adam, however, uses his powers for destruction unlike The Flash.

He is as sassy as they come and it comes naturally to him, making him the most desired in the movie. His sense of humour and 'sarcasm' are on point.

The visuals in this film make this one a worth watch. However, the story is too slow to develop. Even though it takes its own sweet time, there's some entertainment keeping you hooked from time-to-time. When the story finally develops, there is no going back from there.

Dwayne has a heroic entry almost every single time he enters the frame. Your old-school cinephile self is sure to be happy with this portrayal.

The rock as Black Adam was definitely a brave choice but not a bad one. His expressions, especially make this film such a great watch.

Olivia Davis is quite the character in the movie. In the role of Waller, she is but a delight.

Maxine Hall aka Cyclone is so smooth it's almost nautiating. She brings colour to the dark world which is enough said about why she deserves the screen.

Al Rohstein aka Atom Smasher is as adorable as any other geek in the world of DCEU. He almost fits right in and has his moments.

Kent aka Dr. Fate is pretty hilarious. Pierce Brosnan's character is the Iron Man in the world of Black Adam. Of course, since this is DC and not Marvel, you get darker humour unlike Robert Downey Jr.'s character.

Aldis Hodge as Hawkman is the one to make quite an impression early on. He goes by the book and going by his powerful role in the Justice Society of America, we can't even say that's a surprise. Hawkman has rarely ever been one for fun anyway given his dark history but Aldis takes it to a whole new level. That is not a complaint.

Everything about the Justice Society is as cool as its members. Their entry itself is quite the thing. Every geek could talk hours analyzing their spacecraft alone and not get bored by it. That's how cool they are.

Through this movie, you get to see a world without Black Adam and why it shouldn't be that way. Unfortunately though, Shazam did not be a part of this movie. He comes from a fun world which isn't yet ready for the dark humour that Black Adam exhibits.

With Black Adam though, entertainment is guaranteed. Right from the visuals to action, everything is just right.

Verdict:

Black Adam is not a bad watch at all. It isn't perfect at all times but that's the magic of it. The movie offers you respite from time-to-time, in the midst of intense scenes and action. Our protector has a sense of humour, he can fight and even though he destroys everything around him, Black Adam is someone who knows who he is and what he's capable of. He is a hero constantly breaking the mould, one we need.

Oh, do not miss out on the post-credit scene. 'Super' exciting stuff coming up!
