Its bizarrely non-funny and only offers over-the-top acting
Abar Bibaho Obhijaan
Story: Bibaho Obhijaan is about a few men running away from their wives. In Abar Bibaho Obhijaan, these men are still running away from their wives, but in Thailand.
Review: It is insane to ask for logic in a franchise like Abar Bibaho Obhijaan. But this fiasco cannot even offer laughter. When the reviewer was watching the film on Thursday, the only time the theatre warmed up to the insanity is by the end of the second half. Even that did not last long. A passable slapstick comedy ensures at least a moderate storyline and decent acting. This film offers practically nothing.
In the film, Bullet (Anirban Bhattacharya) reconnects with Rajat (Rudranil Ghosh) and Anupam (Ankush) after being released from jail. Together they go to Thailand where Bullet’s father reportedly left him a property worth Rs 100 cr. That obviously leads them to trouble.
After they go to Thailand, there is a song that somewhat captures the warmth and glory of the beach destination. Barring that, 70 percent of their Thailand stay takes place in a resort or indoors which can be anywhere in the world. The bottom line is, what’s the point in shooting in Thailand if you don’t show that foreign land?
Abar Bibaho Obhijaan banks on slapstick comedy with more slapstick and less humour. The film is dotted with repetitive dull moments. So much so that even a mere two hours seem endless and yawning. The garnishing is completed by Rudranil and Anirban’s legendary overacting. Ankush, meanwhile, seems a little less a misfit than the rest two. Their wives, Sohini Sarkar, Nusraat Faria, and Priyanka Sarkar, have practically nothing to do in this film. They yell and add a bit of drama. Saurav Das makes a new entry in this film and perhaps his presence and bizarre dialect add some amount of real comic relief for the viewers.
The positive point of the film is its music. The songs have already gained momentum and surely emerge as the new party songs in the upcoming festive season. Jeet Ganguli does a good job.
Verdict: Abar Bibaho Obhijaan is a badly made film. It intends to make people laugh and yet fails miserably for misplaced sincerity to make a wholesome comedy. The lack of care is written all over the film and finally, that serves no purpose.
