Story:
This film revolves around Anand (Sumanth Ashwin) who is a depressed, wannabe director. His script is not finding takers and his relationship has ended on a sour note. Anand has a best friend, Mangalam, who is about to get married. Together they embark on a journey to Goa to celebrate Mangalam’s last days of bachelorhood. What’s in store for Anand and Mangalam in their trip? is What Anand rediscovers in his life in the middle of this holiday is crux of the story.
Review:
Sumanth Ashwin is okay for the part considering the ‘meta’ angle related to his career. However, he still lacks the emotional depth to portray the real pain of the character. In addition, the styling makes the whole act look tacky from the start. Rohan plays another lead apart from Sumanth Ashwin. He is just the opposite of Anand and is brought on board mainly for comical relief. Rohan has done well but fails to bring emotional depth in the film’s crucial moments. He is fine as long as the proceedings are fun and light-hearted.
7 Days 6 Nights is a rip-off of the Hollywood movie Sideways that came almost two decades ago. More than the inspiration, the absence of effort to adapt it for Telugu audiences shows how the filmmaker isn’t in sync with modern-day filmmaking sensibilities. The modern-day touches are far few and between and only come across through the writing and the music. However, in terms of cinematography and the execution, the film doesn’t at all feel today in its vibe. The staging isn’t contemporary at all.
The narrative relies heavily on double entendre, fun and the undercurrent and the film is devoid of emotional depth. It progresses superficially due to poor characterisation. Since the story is thin and the casting is weak, the narrative feels tiring and runs out of steam soon. It feels like a never-ending borefest. The predictability of the screenplay adds insult to injury. The first and second halves progress at the same pace offering no highs or lows. There’s no head or tail to the story and the ending is far from satisfying.
Verdict:
7 Days 6 Nights is a bland and boring road film. It is devoid of emotions and that’s where it fails. The lacklustre casting and characterisation are its other drawbacks.
