Maamannan starring Vadivelu, releases on OTT platforms on 27th July 2023
With almost 200 acting credits under his belt and three Tamil Nadu State Film Awards for Best Comedian among other accolades, Vadivelu has gone on to establish himself as one of the greatest comedic actors in the Tamil film industry. After debuting in 1988 with a small role in the movie En Thangai Kalyani he appeared in the 1991 drama En Rasavin Manasile, which also starred Tamil comedic actors Goundamani and Senthil, with whom Vadivelu collaborated for a few years producing comedy skits.
After appearing in multiple movies with his trademark self-deprecating slapstick humour, Vadivelu’s popularity began to rise, and in 2006 he was cast in the lead role for the historical comedy movie Imsai Arasan 23rd Pulikecei which was a huge box office hit. Vadivelu would later win the Tamil Nadu State Film Awards for Best Comedian for his performance in the 2008 movie Kathavarayan.
After a string of flops, Vadivelu moved on to play supporting roles in movies and appeared alongside Vijay in the blockbuster hit Mersal in 2017. He returned to acting with Maari Selvaraj’s Maamannan in 2023, after being temporarily banned from the industry. His performance was met with critical acclaim with many considering it to be a fitting comeback for the actor.
