Taapsee Pannu ventured into the world of acting after she lost interest in her modelling career. She felt that she could attain wider recognition as an actor and although her breakthrough performance came in 2016, six years after her debut movie, she did show her acting prowess in many movies that she appeared in until then.
After she made her debut in the Telugu romance musical drama Jhummandi Naadam she appeared alongside Dhanush in the Tamil gangster drama Aadukalam as an Anglo-Indian girl. The movie, directed by Vetrimaaran, was lauded by critics who also praised Pannu’s performance. The 2013 comedy-drama Chashme Baddoor marked her entry into Bollywood
However, it was her performance in the 2016 courtroom drama Pink penned by Shoojit Sircar that brought about significant acclaim and widespread recognition for Pannu, with many critics noting the naturality of her performance. She also appeared in the Anurag Kashyap-directed romantic drama Manmarziyaan which premiered at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival in 2018.
