The Indian screen legend was born a century ago on this day
Dev Anand could charm his way into the audience’s heart with his trademark fast-paced dialogue delivery and his unique acting style, which was often mimicked by his contemporaries. He debuted in the 1946 film Hum Ek Hain as the lead and later garnered widespread recognition for his role in Baazi, directed by Guru Dutt. A string of successful films in the fifties garnered major acclaim for the Evergreen Star and he soon became one of the mainstays of Indian cinema.
His performance in the critically acclaimed Guide was praised by critics and audiences alike and the film was India’s entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 38th Academy Awards.
Taxi Driver Prem Pujari and Lootmaar are some of his other major films.
