With OTT boom, releasing their films on OTT after their theatrical run has become the norm
For film lovers, OTT services have become the ideal source of entertainment. Due to the pandemic, many producers and directors were forced to distribute long-awaited films via digital platforms. And now, even if the film has a theatrical release, it has become a norm to later release on OTT as well. The demand for digital rights to big-budget movies continues to be on the rise.
According to rumours, Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan's digital rights were acquired for a hefty Rs 210 crore. The Siddharth Anand directorial also features Deepika Padukone and John Abraham in important roles.
Even before a year of its theatrical release, Tiger 3, the much-anticipated action thriller starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, is said to have been bought by an OTT platform. The digital rights have been sold to streaming services reportedly for Rs 200 crore.
The creators of Laal Singh Chaddha, starring Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan, have sold the film's rights reportedly to an OTT player for around Rs 160 crore.
Brahmastra, the first celluloid collaboration between the newly married Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, has been auctioned for Rs 150 crore on OTT platforms.
