Radhika Apte was born on 7 September 1985 in Vellore, Tamil Nadu. At the time of her birth, her parents were studying and were practicing doctors at Christian Medical College and Hospital, Vellore. Her family originally hails from Maharashtra.
After receiving basic elementary education in school, Radhika and her four friends were homeschooled by their parents. She later graduated from Fergusson College, Pune in Economics and Mathematics.
Radhika is a trained Kathak dancer. She trained under Kathak exponent, Rohini Bhate, for eight years. During the process, she developed an interest in acting and went to Mumbai to try her luck in the entertainment industry.
