Directed by Santosh Ananddram, the film, produced by Hombale Pictures, paired the late Power Star with Priya Anand - a combination the same banner repeated in his last film, James, which is currently in theatres. Raajakumara was one of the biggest hits of 2017, with the song, Bombe Heluthaithe becoming an instant earworm. It also became a tribute of sorts to the actor when he passed away tragically last year. Here's a look at Appu in Raajakumara...
Raajakumara was Puneeth Rajkumar's second film with Hombale Films, having opened their innings in Kannada cinema with Ninnindale.
Santhosh Ananddram, who had delivered a massive hit with the 2014 Yash starrer Mr & Mrs Ramachari, was at the helm of affairs of Raajakumara, his first film with Puneeth Rajkumar.
English Vinglish star Priya Anand came to Kannada cinema with Raajakumara. She played Nandhini, a salsa instructor and Puneeth's love interest in the film.
On Raajakumara's second anniversary in 2019, Puneeth had taken to social media to talk about the film. "It's a journey that began in 2015 when the story was narrated to me. Shooting started in 2016 and the film released in 2017. I will never forget the love and appreciation I received when the film released. This film is also special it has my father's name in the title. I will never forget Raajakumara or the song Bombe Heluthaithe," he had said.
Chikkanna, who worked with Puneeth on Doddmane Hudga, was then part of Raajakumara too. Since then, the actor has been part of other Puneeth fiilms like Anjaniputra, and James too.
V Harikrishna has had a long association with Puneeth Rajkumar, having composed for films like Raj - The Showman, Raam, Jackie, Hudugaru, Paramathma, Anna Bond, Yaare Koogadali and Ranavikrama among others. The songs of Raajakumara were all chart-toppers, especially Bombe Heluthaithe, Appu Dance and Yaakingagidhe, which Puneeth himself sang.
Besides the lead pair, Raajakumara also had Prakash Raj, Anant Nag, Achyuth Kumar, Avinash, Sadhu Kokila, Bhargavi Narayan, Rangayana Raghu, Dattanna, Chitra Shenoy, Aruna Balraj, among many others on its massive ensemble cast.
Puneeth Rajkumar's film had a theatrical run of more than 100-days in 45–50 centres across Karnataka.
