While Al Pacino won his only Academy Award for his role in Scent of a Woman, the actor has a long list of Oscar nods spanning through the years. The Godfather (1972)
One of the most iconic films in the world, Al Pacino stars in the movie alongside Marlon Brando. While Marlon Brando won the Best Actor award at the 45th Oscars and rejected it, Pacino was nominated for Best Supporting Actor but lost out to Joel Grey.

Essaying the role of Frank Serpico, who was a whistleblower on police corruption within the New York City Police Department during his eleven years of service, Pacino was nominated for Best Actor at the 46th Oscars, but lost out to Jack Lemmon.

One of the most successful sequels in popular cinema, Al Pacino reprised his role as Micheal Corleone. The actor got nominated for Best Actor this time, but eventually lost out to Art Carney.

Yet another cult classic, Dog Day Afternoon is yet another biographical crime drama directed by Sidney Lumet. Playing the bank robber based on John Wojtowicz, Al Pacino lost out the Best Actor prize at the Oscars yet again, this time to Jack Nicholson for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

Norman Jewison’s neo-noir legal drama features one of Al Pacino’s most iconic scenes where he yells, “You're out of order!”. Bagging another Best Actor nod at the Oscars, the movie was also nominated for Best Original Screenplay. Al Pacino lost to Dustin Hoffman in Kramer vs. Kramer.

Warren Beatty directed and starred in this film, based on the 1930s comic strip character of the same name. Al Pacino plays a leading crime boss in the film, for which he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor, but losing out to Joe Pesci for Goodfellas.

Glengarry Glen Ross (1992)
Based on the Pulitzer Prize–winning play Glengarry Glen Ross, the drama has Al Pacino play Richard Roma, one of the four real estate salesmen in the film. Pacino was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 65th Academy Awards, but lost out to Gene Hackman. But Pacino left the 65th Oscars as a first time Academy Award winner, winning the Best Actor award for his role as Lt. Col. Frank Slade in Scent of a Woman.

Marking the first collaboration between Martin Scroses and Pacino, The Irishman had a brilliant cast list that included Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, Ray Romano and Harvey Keitel. Pacino was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 92nd Oscars, but lost out to Brad Pitt for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
