The comedian-actor’s upcoming film Zwigato, directed by Nandita Das, is releasing in theatres on March 17
Kapil Sharma is busy promoting his upcoming film, Zwigato, directed by Nandita Das. The film is a social satire on the country’s food delivery economy. The film will be released in theatres on March 17.
In an interview with Aaj Tak, the comedian-actor was asked about the possible success of his film amid the poor performance of certain big-budget Bollywood films such as Selfiee Shehzada and Shamshera. Kapil responded by saying that films like Pathaan and Kantara were big box-office hits with limited promotions. He says that he does not blame anyone, and rather agrees with what Akshay Kumar has to say about this, “It is our fault only, we can’t put it on anyone. It’s the same public who has been showering love on you for all these years. So, if they don’t like something about you or your work, you should find out the reason behind it”.
He also added that the rise of OTT is the reason for the rejection of average content by the audience. He says that watching films was a luxury to him as a child but after the revolution of OTT, he has also started watching Korean and Dutch films. The boom of content on OTT does not let the audience accept average content.
During the same interview, Kapil also spoke about his battle with mental health and how it affected his career. He said that he used to drink to make himself feel better. Thinking of those days, he added that Shah Rukh Khan once had a chat with him when he cancelled the shoot last minute, where he asked Kapil “if he takes drugs”, which he rejected. SRK counselled him when Kapil said that he no longer feels like working. The comedian came out of depression two years later when his wife, Ginny, took him on a trip, and told him what it felt like to live a normal life.
