The upcoming film, which also features Khushi Kapoor and Agastya Nanda, is based on the popular Archies comics.
Zoya Akhtar is all set to bring to screens her own rendition of the beloved Archie comics. Titled The Archies, the film features the acting debut of star kids Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor and Agastya Nanda. As the makers announced on social media that the film has officially gone on floors today, there poured in a bundle of wishes from celebrities and fans alike.
Dia Mirza, Karan Johar, Shibani Dandekar and Ananya Panday were among the stars who commented on Zoya’s post, piling on heart emojis and wishing her the very best on the project.
Agastya’s mother Shweta Bachchan, his sister Navya Naveli Nanda, and his uncle Abhishek Bachchan too expressed their support as the film went on floors.
Khushi’s sister Janhvi Kapoor also wished them well on the new project.
Pulkit Samrat, Sacred Games’ creator Vikramaditya Motwane, and The Kashmir Files star Darshan Kumaar were among the others who commented on the post with their wishes.
But fans too could not resist chiming in with their opinions on the news when Netflix India announced the news on Instagram and Twitter. While some fans were supportive, expressing their love for the comics and their excitement to see the upcoming project, others were not. Many fans commented that they were doubtful if the new film could do justice to the comics. Others said that they saw no reason for such a film, as the comics had already been adapted into an American TV show, Riverdale. One fan even remarked the upcoming film would be an ‘Indian Riverdale’. Others asked the makers to look for ‘original’ content.
The upcoming film, reportedly set in the 1960s, will be produced by Tiger Baby Films. Suhana, Khushi and Agastya will reportedly essay the roles of Veronica Lodge, Betty Cooper and Archie Andrews, respectively.
The Archies will premiere on Netflix.
