Zoya Akhtar's 'The Archies' has already caught the interest of movie buffs thanks to its intriguing trailer and promotional videos. The film is an Indian version of Archie Comics that chronicles the exploits of Betty, Archie, Veronica, Jughead, Reggie, Ethel, and Dilton in the fictitious hill town of Riverdale in the 1960s. The Archies is co-written by Akhtar, Reema Kagti, and Ayesha Devitre.
Agastya Nanda, Khushi Kapoor, Suhana Khan, Mihir Ahuja, Dot, Vedang Raina, and others make their acting debuts in the film.
Zoya Akhtar on what to anticipate from the film
Director Zoya Akhtar recently spoke with Vogue India and discussed her ambitious project. Intriguingly, the celebrated director revealed what audiences may anticipate from The Archies, a cinematic version of the renowned comic book series of the same name. The filmmaker summarized what movie buffs may anticipate from the official film adaptation of The Archies. The live action film is suited to a particular kind of 'reality,' according to Zoya Akhtar.
Zoya said: "I think the viewers should know that it is a live-action. It's coming onto the screen of a comic book. Yes, it's adapted to some kind of reality here. But it's pushed you know. It's over the top a little bit. And it is a comic - a comic come to life. So, look at it like that."
"It is like, they can expect a musical. And they can expect very very fresh performances," she further added.
About The Archies
Suhana Khan, the daughter of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, stars as Veronica in The Archies in her acting debut. In his first Bollywood film, Agastya Nanda, the grandson of the legendary Amitabh Bachchan, plays Archie Andrews. The younger daughter of late actor Srivedi and producer Boney Kapoor is Khushi Kapoor who will e seen playing the character of Bettie.
The Archies is produced by Tiger Baby Films, the home banner of Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti. It is scheduled to premiere on December 7, 2023.
