Zombivili is the first ever zombie film in Marathi cinema.
Lalit Prabhakar, Vaidehi Parshurami, Amey Wagh, and Trupti Khamkar star in the key roles in Zombivili the first-ever zombie film in Marathi cinema. The film, produced by Yoodlee Film and directed by Aditya Sarpotdar of Faster Fene, combines humour and social satire and was well received by critics and audiences at the box office. On May 20, it will have its digital premiere on ZEE5.
Sudhir (Amey Wagh) is a middle-class engineer who, with his pregnant wife, Seema (Vaidehi Parashurami), moves into an airy high-rise apartment in Dombivli in the hopes of a better life. However, they quickly discover that there is severe water scarcity, followed by a zombie breakout in the nearby Janata Nagar slum. The rich people's facades break as the zombies grow, and we learn that the worst villains here are the truly selfish and mercenary living, not the bloodthirsty undead.
The film tackles several subjects, such as the rich-poor divide, the strength of a female heart, thoughtless urban development, and prejudice against slum residents as a zombie apocalypse film with a dash of humour.
Manish Kalra, the Chief Business Officer of ZEE5 India, said in a statement that their focus has always been on building a comprehensive content inventory across languages that connects with our audience across the country. They are pleased to announce the digital debut of Zombivili which has received a fantastic response from the audience and is built on a novel premise, including a great star ensemble to portray societal complexities through light-hearted humour. This aligns with our goal of expanding ZEE5's content library to include real, relatable, and authentic content in a variety of languages and genres. ZEE5's Zombivili, which joins ZEE5's regional content lineup, is an industry-first concept in Marathi entertainment, and they are confident that our large Marathi diaspora of consumers will appreciate it.
Director Aditya Sarpotdar said that they waited a long time to display our film in cinemas owing to the COVID outbreak, but the success of the film is a credit to the hard work we all put in and the faith we had in the concept. Zombivli is the first zombie film in Marathi cinema, and he is glad the audience appreciated their honest effort to offer a worldwide theme with a local touch. For those who haven't seen the movie yet, it's only available on ZEE5.
Amey Wagh remarked that he is extremely proud of the director for crafting such a pleasant movie that provides a social message with a splash of humour. Zombivili is an out-and-out entertaining film that the entire family can enjoy and laugh over, but it also leaves the audience thinking. They had a great time shooting this film, and he is looking forward to its digital premiere on ZEE5, which will allow them to reach a larger and more worldwide audience.
While Vaidehi Parashurami said that she loved the concept the minute she read it, she is delighted that the viewers have appreciated it as well. Due to COVID, the production of this film had numerous challenges, but the wait was well worth it. With Zombivili now available in over 190 countries on India's largest native OTT platform, ZEE5, Vaidehi is confident that the film will continue to win hearts throughout the world.
