Only days ago, Kannada actor Yuva Rajkumar, the grandson of matinee idol Dr Rajkumar and son of Raghavendra Rajkumar, had filed for divorce from his wife of 5 years, Sridevi Byrappa. In his petition, Yuva had cited mental harassment and abandonment, among others, which Sridevi countered claiming that the actor was in a relationship with his co-star Sapthami Gowda.
What is Sapthami seeking?
Sapthami has now moved court against Sridevi with a defamation case, seeking Rs 10 crore in damages and a public apology from the latter. The actress has said that she has nothing to do with Yuva besides being his co-star in his debut film and that her name was dragged into the case for no fault of hers. Taking cognizance of Sapthami’s petition, the Bengaluru city civil court has sent a notice to Sridevi.
The Kantara fame actress, who was Yuva’s love interest in his debut film, was named in Sridevi’s response to the divorce petition. She claimed that Yuva and Sapthami have been in a relationship for a year and that the former had brought the latter to their marital home as well. Sridevi has been in the US pursuing a post-graduate degree at Harvard.
Sridevi’s response, meanwhile, went viral, and the Yuva-Sapthami angle became the talk of town, especially since the actor’s lawyer had accused the former of having multiple boyfriends and that she did not fulfil marital duties, making the whole divorce quite messy. But for the bit that she has named Sapthami, Sridevi and her family have been far more civil in addressing the divorce petition.
In fact, Sridevi’s family are in favour of reconciliation between the estranged couple. Yuva, whose official name is Guru Rajkumar, was in a relationship with Sridevi for several years prior to their wedding in May 2019.
