Story: Georgie realizes that he is really not cut out for school and decides that working longer hours is what he should be doing. His parents, though, want him to at least get a diploma and then drop out. Who will have the last word?

Review: Episode 3 of Season 5 dropped a day late on Amazon Prime India for reasons best known to them. At the end of an impatient wait for the video to be finally available, the episode dropped with barely any progress to the narrative. Given that this is the final season of Young Sheldon, one would expect the series to tie up all the loose ends in accordance with what’s been said on The Big Bang Theory with respect to Sheldon’s early life, parents and siblings.

This episode, though, barely moved an inch in that direction. Fans of The Big Bang Theory will know that Sheldon has spoken of having lost his father when he was only 15 and that his parents were divorced at the time; after an indiscretion on his father’s part. The trouble with Young Sheldon is that George Sr, played by Lance Barber, has always come across as one of the most likeable characters on the show. So, even though Young Sheldon has been hinting at a possible liaison with newly-single neighbour Brenda, he is not as bad a parent as he has been made out to be. It remains to be seen how the showrunners will fix that plothole.

On this episode, though, the only ‘significant’ development came on the day that George and Mary decide to go on a date night, only to cancel said plans when they find out that Georgie has decided to drop out of school and focus on getting more work. George wants Georgie out of his house if he doesn’t go back to school, which Mary thinks is a little too harsh. So, there’s some drama between them because of Georgie.

As for Sheldon, he continues to wonder why Dr Sturgis would be content working at a convenience store, when he could, instead, put his two PhDs to better use in science. So, he enlists Dr Linkletter's help to drill some sense into Dr Sturgis. Does it work?

Verdict: But for Georgie’s new plan in life, this episode really had nothing new to offer. So much for the endless wait for the episode to drop on Amazon Prime Video. Sigh!
