The true crime documentary will be available to stream on Netflix from November 5, 2021 onwards.
What is Yara about?
Yara follows the murder case of a 13-year old Yara Gambirasio, in Italy. Gambirasio had gone missing on the evening of November 26, 2010 when she was returning home from a sports center where she practised rhythmic gymnastics.
Her body was found in February the subsequent year and the cause of murder was determined as trauma to the head and freezing, as she had disappeared on a snowy night.
The series delves into the investigation that followed, chronicling the efforts of prosecutor Letizia Ruggeri to bring justice to Yara’s family and the single most crucial piece of evidence the authorities had to go by in their investigation- a trace of DNA.

Was the murder case of Yara solved?
Based on DNA evidence the police arrested Massimo Giuseppe Bossetti, a labourer by profession. He was convicted and awarded life imprisonment for the crime.
However, Bossetti has repeatedly claimed his innocence and his lawyers point to inaccuracies in the DNA match as the grounds for reopening the case. In January 2021, their pleas for revision of the evidence was granted.
