India's leading wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik have accused BJP MP and WFI and president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment
Ever since India's leading women wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik decided to go public with the allegations of sexual harassment against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the issue has snowballed into a major controversy. Phogat had alleged that the BJP MP has been exploiting women wrestlers for many years. The wrestlers had recently staged a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi and Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Bajrang Punia, too, had joined them.
And now actress Ritika Singh, who is a kickboxer and mixed martial arts expert herself, has come forward in her support to the wrestlers. She wrote on her social media handle, " So sad and frustrating to see that the wrestlers that bring in the most number of medals for India by participating in all the major tournaments, are protesting for their basic rights and respect at Jantar Mantar since three days now. These are the same wrestlers that put India on the world map. They bring in dozens of medals each time they participate in Olympics, the Commonwealth games, the Asian games etc and this is how the federation treats them? What a sad state of affairs for the Indian wrestlers (sic) !"
Interestingly, Ritika herself had played a boxer in her maiden venture Irudhi Suttru (Saala Khadoos in Hindi), which was written and directed by Sudha Kongara and Madhavan in the lead. The film was bankrolled by YNOT Studios. Ritika went on to bag a number of awards for her performance in the film. She later acted in Aandavan Kattalai, Guru, Shivalinga, Oh My Kadavule to name a few. She is awaiting the release of Vanangamudi, Kolai and King of Kotha. She was recently seen in the web series Story of Things, in which she appeared in the episode titled Compressor.
