Bollywood has a newfound love for biopics and after a number of them being released recently and finding success, there is another one in the making. The latest buzz from Bollywood is that Ketan Mehta is planning to bring the life of Usha Mehta to the silver screen. If reports are to be believed, Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar are top choices for the role.
For some time now, reports were making rounds about Karan Johar wanting to back a movie on the life of the freedom fighter, Usha Mehta. Now it seems like his vision has finally breathed a new life into a movie. The movie is also said to be directed by Ketan Mehta, who is the nephew of Usha Mehta.
Usha Mehta was a Gandhian who helped establish the Congress Radio during the freedom struggle. The underground radio station also helped in propagating Gandhi’s message of non-violence during the Quit India movement. While both Taapsee’s and Bhumi’s names are making the rounds to portray the freedom fighter, there has been no official announcement on it yet. Meanwhile, Taapsee Pannu has been busy with several projects, and she is awaiting the release of Annabelle Sethupathi co-starring Vijay Sethupathi.
According to reports by a news portal, the filmmaker is already working on drafting a script for the biopic, which is in the final stages. It is also reported that he has begun pre-production for the movie and is looking to set the movie rolling by the end of 2021.
Ketan Mehta has previously helmed biographical movies in the past, such as Mangal Pandey: The Rising which was a big success and Manjhi: The Mountain Man.
