Paul King, known for the two Paddington movies, directs 'Wonka' which stars Timothée Chalamet, Calah Lane and several others.
One of Roald Dahl's most endearing and beloved characters, Willy Wonka, is set to take a new shape in Paul King's 'Wonka', a dazzling origin story starring Timothée Chalamet in the titular role.
The film will be a musical fantasy adaptation of Dahl's mesmerizingly vibrant world with several other characters and creations from his works, too, featuring in it. Timothée Chalamet, who looks quite in his element as the bumbling chocolatier in the film's trailer, seems well supported by the rest of the cast which includes debutant Calah Lane, Keegan-Michael Key, Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, Mathew Baynton, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Jim Carter, Tom Davis, Olivia Colman, and Hugh Grant.
When and where to watch 'Wonka'
And luckily, Wonka is set to be a pre-holiday delicacy for all of us and will be served all over the world this December. The film will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures globally and the studio recently announced that it will release in theatres in India on December 8, 2023.
What to expect from Wonka?
The makers have already released two versions of the film's trailer to offer a solid peek into the bright-hued, whimsical world put together by Paul King & Co. King, of course, is best known for his directing the first two Paddington movies and all the promotional material of Wonka suggests quite strongly that film, too, will be imbued with his trademark dry humour and enchanting characters.
Aside from that, the trailers also reveal that Willy Wonka's character will be dealt with in great detail. The film will attempt to chronicle Wonka's life as a young adult who must navigate all the difficulties in order to become the ingenious chocolatier that the world would go on to identify him as. He must get past the dreaded and wide-eyed Chocolate Cartel, trust his instincts and keep his faith in the magic of optimism to get there.
