Sheethal’s debut directorial comes to OTT a month after its theatrical release
In the last few weeks of June, when the promotions of Vikrant Rona picked up, Nirup Bhandari, who plays a pivotal role in the Sudeep film, could not be a part of the events, including the trailer launch. Nirup, as it turns out, was, at the time, promoting yet another film of his, Window Seat, which was coming to theatres on July 1. The film opened in theatres in competition with Shiva Rajkumar’s Bairagee.
Window Seat is former TV host and actress Sheethal Shetty’s directorial debut. While direction was not on her agenda initially, her friends in the industry believed that she would do justice to her own script. Now that she has taken the plunge, Sheethal has been quoted as saying that direction is now a passion. The film, which also stars Amrutha Iyengar and Sanjana Anand in the lead, is a murder mystery. The whodunit revolves around Nirup’s character, a musician, who travels to work every day by train. On this journey, without fail, he always catches a glimpse of the girl of his dreams, until one fateful evening, when he sees what appears to be her murder. One of the film’s major highlights was the police officer character played by Lekha Naidu, which had nothing over-the-top about it and yet was immensely impactful.
When the film eventually released in theatres, it didn’t set the box office on fire, much to the disappointment of the debutant director. The film, produced by Shalini and Manjunath Gowda of Shalini Artss, who are the makers of Vikrant Rona too, had sold Window Seat’s satellite and digital rights to Zee Kannada and Zee5 respectively. And now we hear that the streaming platform has set a date for when it will be available.
According to the latest buzz, Window Seat will start streaming on Zee5 from August 11.
