Everyone’s favourite vigilante, Zorro, is gearing up for another appearance on the silver screen. It was announced that a new television show based on the masked vigilante was in the works at Disney.
According to a report in The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming show is currently in development at Disney Branded Television. The series will star Wilmer Valderrama as the lead, who has been a part of popular shows such as Grey's Anatomy and That '70s Show.

The character of Zorro was created by American author Johnston McCulley in 1919. Zorro is a masked vigilante who punishes tyrants and corrupted people in power, while defending the rights of the poor and defenceless. He is the alter ego of a man named Don Diego de la Vega.
The popular character had been adapted for TV and film several times before. Antonio Banderas had famously portrayed the character in the 1998 film The Mask of Zorro and its sequel, which also starred Catherine Zeta-Jones.

The upcoming TV show is based on the 1957 Disney series which starred Guy Williams in the lead. Other actors who have portrayed the character include Douglas Fairbanks and Robert Livingston.
The upcoming series will be executive produced by Gary Marsh along with John Gertz. The latter will produce under the banner of Zorro Productions which owns the rights to the character. The show will be developed in the style of a contemporary telenovela.
