The makers of the Kiran Abbavaram, Kashmira starrer have borrowed a leaf out of Sithara Entertainments’ strategy for Dhanush’s Sir
Early premieres aren’t any new to Telugu cinema but there have been only a handful of occasions where it has translated into box office revenue for the films in the initial weekend. The notable success this year that has proved this belief wrong was Writer Padmabhushan, starring Suhas, superbly marketed by its producers Chai Bisket Films.
Good content-driven films like Swathimuthyam, Oke Oka Jeevitham, Mukhachitram too tried to reap rich dividends from early premieres through good reviews couldn’t boost their box office prospects as expected. However, this week, Sithara Entertainments took a huge gamble with their idea to have over 35 shows of Sir before its release on Friday.
All the 35 shows were housefulls across Telugu states and this has ensured the Dhanush, Samyuktha Menon drama an impressive start at the ticket window. The only notable competition for Sir this weekend is Kiran Abbavaram’s Vinaro Bhagyamu Vishnu Katha, backed by Geetha Arts. Noticing the strategy for Sir, the makers are organising special previews for the media tonight.
It takes good confidence in one’s product to be organising a preview a day before its release, given the impact it may have on the collections right on the first day. However, if it works in the team’s favour, it could prove to be a shot in the arm and help it stand amidst the tough competition from Dhanush’s Sir. Vinaro Bhagyamu.. is crucial for both Kiran Abbavaram and Geetha Arts.
Both Kiran Abbavaram and the prestigious banner have been at the receiving end from audiences in the recent past and it’s important that they return to form soon. While the film’s leading lady Kashmira is still a new face, a lot will ride on Kiran Abbavaram’s ability to pull crowds to theatres besides the credibility of the banner. If this early preview strategy works out, one can expect bigger films to follow suit.
