Venom 2 VS No Time To Die

With theatres opening partially across the globe and record-breaking movies like Venom 2 and No Time to Die, it feels like the trend of moviegoing is getting back to normal. Sony Pictures' Marvel sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage blew smashed the pandemic records and made a debut with $90.1 million in ticket sales in the US and the others parts of the world where it has released. According to studio estimates, it easily became the best opening of the pandemic. The film has in fact exceeded the opening collection of its prequel Venom that released in 2018. It had collected $80.3 million. The film was forecast to collect half of the amount that it actually collected.

The James Bond movie No Time To Die, on the other hand, collected around $120 on the opening weekend worldwide, close to The Skyfall release. This is possibly the best news for theatre owners and filmmakers in over 18 months. The film which marked the last appearance of Daniel Craig as James Bond and Venom 2 were planned for a release last year but the makers decided to wait it out for situations due to the COVID-19 pandemic to get better. And their wait seems to have been rewarded.

Before Venom: Let There Be Carnage, the best pandemic opening films were Scarlett Johansson starrer Black Widow that collected $80 million; the Marvel superhero movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which collected $75 million; and Fast and Furious 9 that grossed $70 million.

While Daniel Craig's No Time To Die was released in India on September 30, Venom 2 is yet to release in the country. The film will release in India on October 14.
