Actor Will Smith seems to have made small strides towards making his return to the public realm. Following the intense backlash to the 'slapgate' at the Oscars, Smith has remained under the radar with his last social media post made on July 29.

On July 29, the King Richard actor shared a video post wherein he was seen addressing the incident for the very first time since it occurred back in march of 2022. Will Smith would not only offer his apology to Chris Rock but also the latter’s mother and brother/fellow actor Tony Rock for the incident, terming the consequences of the incident as ‘irreparable’. Smith also addressed his own family (including wife Jada Pinkett Smith), fellow Oscar nominees, and others in the same video post.

And having made this prominent gesture on the public forum, Will Smith then made short but valiant attempts to return to social media. The actor and rapper shared a meme on August 20 wherein a baby Gorilla tries to win the attention of a much larger one by scratching its back, implying that his attempt to make a comeback to the public realm feels similar.

“Welcome Back,” commented one social media user on the same post, echoing the almost unanimous optimism among the fans and well-wishers. The comments, in general, suggested that Smith has made enough reparations over the past four-odd months to return to the limelight.

The following day, Smith posted yet another video on Instagram in which he seemed his chirpy self as he and his son Trey Smith battled a spider! The father-son duo was seen making swift plans to get the spider out of their stay which evoked many laughs from the netizens. Fellow Hollywood superstar Jamie Foxx too reacted to the video with a laughter emoji.

On the work front, Will Smith will return to the big screen after his Oscar-winning performance in King Richard with Antoine Fuqua’s action-thriller Emancipation. The film is up for a 2023 release.
