Rawal recently starred in Sharmaji Namkeen, which also starred Rishi Kapoor and Juhi Chawla.
Veteran actor Paresh Rawal recently stepped in to finish Sharmaji Namkeen, essaying the role Rishi Kapoor was unable to complete after the latter’s death. In his career spanning almost four decades, Rawal has several memorable films to his name, including Hera Pheri or Andaz Apna Apna. The actor recently opened up about whether or not fans could expect to see him in the sequels of the latter two films.
In conversation with Times of India, Rawal revealed that he had no ‘excitement’ in reprising his characters from those films, unless they are put in a different backdrop. The actor talked about how Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. (2003) and its sequel Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006) were an ‘ideal’ example of what he meant. If he does decide to play the same character again, Rawal said he would ‘charge a bomb’ to do so. “So apart from money, there will be no joy for me,” he said.
The actor also talked about how the story should be good as well, if he does decide to return for the film’s sequel. He said that if a sequel to a film like Hera Pheri were to be developed, then using the same kind of ‘ghisa-pita jokes’ would not work. Rawal added that he would be excited for a sequel only if were evolved.
On his Andaz Apna Apna director Rajkumar Santoshi, Rawal said that no one could make a comedy film like the director. The actor recalled the ‘stunning’ way Santoshi used to show them how to act out a particular scene.
Rawal was last seen in the Hitesh Bhatia directorial Sharmaji Namkeen. Both Rawal and Rishi Kapoor played the role of the titular protagonist, with the former stepping in to finish the film after Kapoor’s death. The film, which also stars Juhi Chawla, can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.
