Will Dev play Uttam Kumar’s role in Satyajit Ray’s Nayak?

Dev has no time to respite. Soon after completing one project, a series of other works chase him. His Byomkesh O Durgo Rohoshyo will be released on August 11. Bagha Jatin will be released during Durga Puja. And finally, Pradhan will be released on Christmas. He also declared that he would appear in a film by Srijit Mukherji. According to several media reports, it is being heard that Dev is planning a new film that is deeply connected with icons like Satyajit Ray and Uttam Kumar.

The reports said that Dev is planning to remake the iconic film Nayak, directed by Satyajit Ray and starring Uttam Kumar. Dev plans to play the titular role, previously played by Uttam. Ram Kamal Mukherjee may direct the film. If this film is a remake, permission has to be taken from the Ray family. But a source said that it will not be a so-called remake, but a homage to Nayak. Dev talked with Sandip Ray also, regarding this film.

Ram Kamal directed the film Binodini: Ekti Notir Upakhyan, which stars Rukmini Maitra. The post-production work is going in full swing. Dev is supposedly happy with the director's work in such a period piece. Now they paired up to reinvent the iconic film, Nayak. Anandabazar Online contacted Ramkamal, who denied the news. He said, “I have not finished Binodini’s work. I do not know how Nayak’s issue comes now.” However, he admitted that he is thinking of a new film.

Many people consider Nayak, released in 1966, one of the best Ray films. Previously, Srijit Mukherji paid tribute to the movie through his debut film Autograph in 2010. Prosenjit Chatterjee won the audience’s hearts by playing Arun Kumar Chattopadhyay. It remains to see what surprise Dev presents with his film.
