Will Chinna be the comeback film in Telugu that Siddharth richly deserves?
Siddharth in Chinna

Siddharth is an actor whom Telugu audiences will always hold close to their hearts irrespective of hits or flops. After all, he was a performer whom the current generation stars had once labelled as their inspiration. And someone with a filmography boasting Bommarillu, Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana, Oye, Konchem Ishtam Konchem Kashtam, doesn’t deserve be forgotten easily.

While there have been many theories about why Siddharth distanced himself from Telugu cinema all these years, it’s pointless to bring them up again. What matters is his attempt to set the record straight and make good cinema. He tried to reinvent himself in a role with grey shades in Maha Samudram, which tanked. Siddharth’s effort to be an action hero with Takkar didn’t resonate with audiences either.

His latest endeavour as an actor and a producer is Chinna, the Telugu dubbed version of Chithha, his Tamil thriller that opened to glowing reviews last week. The thriller, directed by S U Arun Kumar, revolves around a man’s fight for his niece, when the latter goes missing. Several early premieres of the Telugu version have earned promising feedback from crowds. The only issue is the packed weekend ahead.

Asian Cinemas is distributing Chinna in Telugu states and the association ensures it a decent release. Siddharth has claimed that he can’t do a better film than Chinna in his career and the reviews prove his conviction. While the widely promoted Rules Ranjann and Mad hold the edge among this Friday’s releases, the Siddharth starrer will take a few shows, good word of mouth to make an impression.

Nimisha Sajayan plays the female lead in the film which has music by Dhibu Ninan Thomas and Vishal Chandrasekhar. After Chinna, Siddharth will be seen in two impressive films - producer Sashikanth’s directorial debut Test (alongside Madhavan, Nayanthara) and Indian 2, directed by Shankar. His previous release Takkar can be streamed in multiple languages on Netflix.
