Shilpa Shetty had appeared on Koffee With Karan season 2
The highly controversial talk show Koffee With Karan has sparked numerous conflicts within Bollywood due to the uncensored statements and revelations made by the celebrities. Amidst all the heated discussions, the issue of nepotism in the industry takes centre stage. Although many attribute the beginning of this debate to actress Kangana Ranaut, it was actually Shilpa Shetty who subtly addressed the topic much before anybody else.
An old video featuring Shilpa on the show has recently resurfaced on social media. In the clip, she indirectly addressed Karan Johar’s role in promoting nepotism. Shilpa subtly conveyed that despite her long-standing career in the entertainment industry, she never received backing from major production houses in Bollywood. She said, “I have been working since 17, and I may not have had the Karan Johars and the Yash Chopras backing me.”
Karan then spoke about Shilpa’s impressive collection of films, including Dhadkan and Phir Milenge under her belt during that period, regardless of whether she received substantial support or not. Nonetheless, Shilpa didn’t take Karan’s remark lightly and promptly clarified that those were her comeback projects.
The host then mentioned how most of Shilpa’s films performed well at the box office. She was quick to retort that when her movie Dhadkan did well, she tried to reinvent herself by doing something different again with the film, Rishtey. However, people and the media left no stone unturned to degrade her and make her feel bad.
Shortly after, Karan highlighted how Shilpa was receiving the well-deserved recognition and applause following her involvement in Big Brother. Karan also noted that individuals who might have overlooked her previously had now reappeared, valuing her as they should. In response to this, Shilpa delivered a poignant answer and imparted the wisdom her mother, Sunanda Shetty, had instilled in her.
