Self-doubt and overthinking are common burdens in life of every filmmaker. Director Prashanth Neel is no exception to this. Even though he has delivered the biggest ever hit in the history of Kannada cinema, KGF: Chapter 2, his new film Salaar is set to take a record-breaking opening this week and a slew of superstars from across the country wants to collaborate with him, he still wrestles with feelings of inadequacy.

Prashanth revealed that he feels sorry for himself when he watches "well-made, non-action movies." It seems films with great artistic merits make him feel inferior and question his life choices. And that's the reason he has decided not to watch critically acclaimed films to protect his creative process.

Prashanth has made it a point that he will only watch full-fledged commercial films, particularly known for their action sequences. The last film he watched this year was Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. The director's aversion to critically celebrated films stems from a deep introspection triggered by his experience watching Kantara.

"When I watched Kantara, I was thinking what the hell am I doing making action movies? Why can't I make a good movie just because there is a beautiful subject? Kantara is one of those movies that reinforced my thought process that I am not going to watch another movie like that again. I absolelty loved Kantara. It makes me bleed inside to think that I am making commercial cinema again and again," Prashanth told Galatta Plus.

Watch Koose Munisamy Veerappan, Kadak Singh, Scam 2003, Chaaver and more on OTTplay, by subscribing to the Jhakaas monthly pack which provides access to 19 OTTs at just ₹49 for the first month.

Prashanth noted that he cannot make a film like Kantara as well as Rishab Shetty. He had no qualms in admitting that his main focus is now to make big blockbusters that make massive money at the box office. However, he is determined to unleash his restrained artistic voice at a later stage in his career.
