What’s the update on Thalaivar 171? Lokesh Kanagaraj reveals key details about the Rajinikanth film

We had earlier reported that filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj, who last directed Vijay in Leo, will be teaming up with actor Rajinikanth for Thalaivar 171. The filmmaker, who attended the Chennai Comic Con festival recently, gave an update about the project's progression.

With the film in the pre-production stage, Thalaivar 171 will be backed by Sun Pictures and will have music by Anirudh Ravichander. Thalaivar 171 will mark Lokesh's first film with Rajinikanth.

What did Lokesh say about Thalaivar 171?

Lokesh attended the Comic Con event in Chennai recently and interacted with the press. The director said that he is currently working on the script of the film and pre-production process is expected to start in two to three months. Lokesh also mentioned that he is in communication with Rajinikanth over phone, while also staying away from social media in order to focus on Thalaivar 171. Backed by Sun Pictures banner, the film has music by Anirudh Ravichander. It is highly unlikely the film will come under Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) which includes Kaithi, Vikram and Leo.

On the other hand, recently while speaking to the press, Rajinikanth had confirmed that he will immediately start shooting for his 171st outing after wrapping up Vettaiyan. Vettaiyan is helmed by TJ Gnanavel and boasts a star ensemble including Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Dushara Vijayan among others.

Lokesh also gives updates on Leo 2

Lokesh’s last film was Leo starring Vijay. An adaptation of History of Violence, Leo falls under LCU. When asked if there are possibilities of Leo 2 Lokesh said that he is always ready to do the film, provided Vijay is interested in it. It is to be noted that Vijay recently announced his political party Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam.

“Everything is possible, but there should a time for that. His (Vijay) ambition, right now, is concentrating on higher levels, so I congratulate him. There is always a possibility of Leo 2 and will surely make if and when he calls me,” Lokesh said.
