If you believe the trailer, Garfield and Pugh are unbelievably adorable in We Live in Time. Garfield's Hacksaw Ridge and tick, tick...BOOM! fans will be delighted to learn that they both received nominations for Best Actor at the Academy Awards, while Pugh's nomination was for Little Women. With a plot that revolves around the couple, the film must feature outstanding actors, since Almut and Tobias go through a turbulent trip that spans years. The casting of Pugh and Garfield looks to have been a smart move by the We Live in Time team, who should do well with the film.

Director's previous work and style

Interestingly, Brooklyn directed by Crowley in 2015, was a drama that received three Oscar nominations upon its initial release. The film received a Best Picture nomination despite not receiving a Best Director nomination, demonstrating the impact of Crowley's vision. Another testament to Crowley's skill in collaboration with performers is the fact that Brooklyn earned Saoirse Ronan a nomination for Best Actress. The fact that the film is also a romantic comedy reveals the filmmaker's fondness for such films.

We Live in Time may have Oscar aspirations thanks to its acclaimed director and stellar main performances. With its high drama, multi-year plot, and heartbreaking terminal illness plot, the film has all the makings of an Oscar-worthy performance from its actors.

Release date and awards season positioning

With an October 11 release, We Live in Time will be in theatres just before the majority of big award releases. The film has a promising premise that could propel it to an awards-season triumph if it is accompanied by stellar performances.
