Murphy, directed by Urvi-maker BS Pradeep Varma, and co-written by leading man Prabhu Mundkur, is set for a September 27 release
Kannada filmmaker Pradeep Varma introduced his new film Murphy to audiences a couple of months ago, when he released a teaser featuring the lead cast, including Prabhu Mundkur, Roshni Prakash, Ila Veermala and Dattanna. The film’s set for a September 27 theatrical release, and since Pradeep’s film is a musical drama, he’s been dropping songs from the album that boasts compositions by the likes of Arjun Janya, Sylvester Pradeep, Rajat Hegde and Keerthan Holla.
A couple of weeks ago, the first song, Ilege Banda Maleye, was released, and now, there’s a beautiful melody called Samaya, which, according to the official description, “captures the sweetness of relationships, the beauty of togetherness, and the preciousness of time.”. Prabhu and Ila’s romantic relationship is the prime focus of the song composed by Arjun and sung by Rajat Hegde.

Murphy, according to reports, is a film about relationships, between family members and romantic partners and is set across two different timelines. Prabhu plays David Murphy and sports two very distinctive looks in the film, while Dattanna is his grandfather, Richard. The teaser hints at David being brought up by Richard and some festering daddy issues owing to that. The film also has Ashwin Rao Pallaki, Rramprasadd Bana, Mahantesh Hiremath on the cast. Pradeep is also credited on the cast.

Written by Pradeep and Prabhu, Murphy was shot predominantly in Goa, with some portions canned in Mangaluru. The film’s been in production for a while, including delays caused by the pandemic and is being released along with NTR Jr’s Devara. As of now, it is also rumoured that Shivarajkumar’s Bhairathi Ranagal, which was postponed from its earlier August 15 date, will land in theatres along with Murphy and Devara.
