Karan Johar has a funny reaction to those claiming Showtime is his profession’s biopic.

Recently, a video went viral online in which actress Mouni Roy was seen passionately kissing actor Emraan Hashmi. The footage is scooped out of one of the promotional videos for Showtime, an upcoming web series produced by filmmaker Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment, the digital extension of Dharma Productions. The series is expected to shed light on the issue of nepotism in detail. With barely three days remaining for the series to land on Disney+ Hotstar, here is what Karan Johar has to say.

Filmmaker Karan Johar dropped a video on Instagram today in which he promoted Showtime in a funny way. The video shows him in conversation with two budding storywriters.

Watch Tejas, Expendables 4, Australian Open, Cubicles 3, and more on OTTplay, by subscribing to the Jhakaas monthly pack, which provides access to 22 OTTs at just ₹249 for the first month.

At the beginning of the video, Karan Johar can be seen reading a few scripts. Disappointingly, he did not like any of them. He said to the writers, “We are making a web series. Don’t you understand? These bloody songs and dance numbers (in scripts), mushy mushy love stories are sentimental bullshit. I am done with What Jhumka types.”

For the unfamiliar, What Jhumka was a popular song from the 2023 movie, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.

Karan later suggested the writers come up with something that appears not to be a product of Karan Johar. One of the two writers expressed confidence that he had such a story in hand. The writer narrated the story, which indirectly conveyed how the outside world views the existence of nepotism in Bollywood. After hearing the idea, Karan felt excited to convert the script into a project.
