Despite its hugely popular theme songs and high-energy action sequences, Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi’s recent action drama Bholaa Shankar failed to find success at the box office. However, his contemporaries from neighbouring states have delivered blockbusters by embracing age-appropriate roles and adhering to current action trends. In a recent interview at a book launch event, it seemd like Chiranjeevi hit out at other stars.

Chiranjeevi's alleged dig at Rajinikanth

In the now viral video, Chiranjeevi shared his thoughts about veteran actors opting for age-appropriate roles and not indulging in mass fight sequences and dance numbers. “I am not the kind of a person to think that re-recording or BGM should lift my heroism. I should dance, fight and act, because only then will the audience will be satisfied”, said the Telugu superstar. He also emphasised the importance of putting in the physical effort and originality into dances and action sequences to satisfy not only the producers and directors, but also the audience and himself.

While Chiranjeevi said that his signature dance steps and fight sequences are crucial for the marketing of a film and its eventual success, his mention of "re-recording" appears to be a jibe directed at Kollywood superstar Rajinikanth and his recent blockbuster hit, Jailer. Rajinikanth plays a retired jailer in the film and is not seen in high-octane action sequences, relying heavily on music composer Anirudh Ravichander's background music to highlight his heroism in the film.

Twitteratis have come to Thalaivar's defence, slamming Chiranjeevi for what he said. Some even asked how he could have said this, considering that Chiranjeevi's 2022 film Godfather relied heavily on background music to highlight his character's heroism.

Here are some of the reactions from the public to the Mega Star’s statement:

Many of Chiranjeevi's fans are hopeful that the actor will now play age-appropriate roles and entertain audiences with strong content that goes beyond just dance numbers and action scenes.

When it comes to his upcoming projects, Chiranjeevi will be seen next in a fantasy film that is tentatively titled ‘Mega157’.
