Want to watch Bhagyavantaru? Dr Rajkumar's classic film is getting re-released in November

The Kannada remake of the 1974 Tamil film Dheerga Sumangali, paired the late Kannada matinee idol with B Saroja Devi

Dr Rajkumar’s 1977 Kannada family drama, Bhagyavantaru, directed by HR Bhargava, which also starred B Saroja Devi, Ashok, Balakrishna, Ramakrishna, Thoogudeepa Srinvas, MS Sathyu and producer Dwarakish in a guest role, is being re-released in the second week of November. The film has been processed with the latest technology to make it fit for screening.

Bhagyavantaru was the Kannada remake of the Tamil film, Dheerga Sumangali, which came out in 1974. The original film was directed by AC Tirulokchandar and had KR Vijaya and Muthuraman in the lead. The Kannada version has Puneeth Rajkumar making a brief appearance in a song sequence. In fact, two of the three tracks composed by Rajan-Nagendra, were sung by the Kannada matinee idol himself. The film remains as one of the biggest hits in Dr Rajkumar’s illustrious career.

The plot of the film followed a couple, played by Dr Rajkumar and Saroja Devi, who are considered a burden and abandoned by their children. However, when the parents strike rich, the children make a beeline for them in an attempt to bring them back home. But can it all go back to how it was before?

In fact, the film was scheduled to re-release in April this year with 7.1 sound technology and innovative digital intermediate works in place. But when the second wave of the pandemic hit and everything went into standstill again, Bhagayavantharu could not be released at the time. Veteran distributor and producer Muniraju is the man behind the release plans of the updated version of Bhagayavantharu. Sources say that it will be released across multiple screens in the state, given that Muniraju has successfully brought classics like Operation Diamond Racket, Nanobba Kalla, and Daari Thappida Maga, back to theatres in recent times.
