The latest reports confirm that Knives Out 3 titled Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery will release in 2025 and suggest that Cailee Spaeny and Josh O'Connor are now in talks to play major roles in the sequel. Tom Hardy and Lindsay Lohan are reportedly also in talks to star, so those two names are at the top of the list.

Background on Knives Out franchise

To refresh your memory, after the first Knives Out film was a smash hit at Lionsgate, director Rian Johnson sold Netflix the rights to two further sequels. The second installment, titled Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery premiered on Netflix in late 2022. The film accumulated 301 million hours of viewing time during its seven weeks in the worldwide top ten. The film received 68.70 million views in 2023, thanks to 161.50 million hours of viewing time.

The third film's reports remained hidden until last week. Netflix exclusively unveiled the title of the upcoming film, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery via its TUDUM site on Friday, along with some new title graphics.

After the announcement of the titles, Johnson expressed his love for whodunits on X, highlighting their malleability. One of the most thrilling aspects of making Benoit Blanc films is getting to explore the complete tonal spectrum, from Carr to Christie.

Only Daniel Craig, reprising his role as Benoit Blanc has officially announced his participation in the upcoming sequel. According to What's On Netflix?, the future sequel is currently evaluating Cailee Spaeny and Josh O'Connor for their roles, provided they have not already signed contracts.

Priscilla an Elvis Presley biopic, and A24's Civil War, in which Spaeny plays the lead role, are two of her recent high-profile features. In addition to Bad Times at the El Royale, On the Basis of Sex is another credit.

Challengers in which O'Connor co-starred with Zendaya and Mike Faist, marks his return to acting. Another notable job for the actor was his portrayal of Prince Charles in the two seasons of The Crown, Netflix's flagship series.

Production schedule

Johnson stated in a Friday follow-up tweet that they are about to go into production on the third film, and he is very excited to share the title, which gives a little hint of where it's going.

Reports indicate that the new film's production will start on June 10, 2024.
